Swimming & Diving Claims Three Podiums On Day 3 Of ACCs

Greensboro, N.C. – The University of North Carolina swimming and diving teams landed on the podium three times during Thursday night's finals at the ACC Championships. Patrick Hussey claimed silver in the 200 freestyle with a school record, while Lanie Gutch used a personal best to finish second on the 3-meter springboard. Ben Delmar used a school record to secure third in the 400 IM.

The men's team sits in third place with 517 points, while the women are fifth at 394.

Hussey broke the school record in the 200 freestyle earlier in the meet as the leadoff leg of the 800 free relay. He improved on that time by over half a second, clocking a 1:31.68 and narrowly missing out on the conference title, while securing his spot on the podium.

Gutch improved her personal best at three meters, scoring 371.40 points. She maintained her spot at No. 6 on UNC's all-time list and secured the first podium of her collegiate career. Aranza Vázquez Montaño placed fifth on the evening with a 365.65 to add 25 points to the Tar Heel women's score.

Delmar set a school record in the 400 IM to finish third and reach the podium. Delmar now holds five school records, three individual marks and two relay records. His time of 3:40.61 moved him ahead of Henry Campbell, whose previous record of 3:40.88 was set in 2017. Louis Dramm scored big points in the same event, finishing sixth in 3:42.42.

Aislin Farris set a new personal best and remained fourth all-time at UNC in the 400 IM with a time of 4:08.60 to finish seventh. PJ Foy took eighth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 45.33, while Boyd Poelke (45.15) finished second in the consolation final and 10th overall. Sebastian Lunak took sole possession of third all-time in the 100 fly with a new personal best of 45.46 to place 11th.

During prelims, 11 swimmers and two divers advanced to the evening finals. Delmar tied the third-best time in UNC history with a 3:41.51 in the 400 IM. Lunak moved into a tie for third all-time at UNC in the 100 fly with a 45.57. Farris qualified sixth overall in the 400 IM with a 4:09.27, which moved her into fourth all-time in the event.
