POSTGAME QUOTES
UNC 73, NAVY 61
NOVEMBER 18, 2025
DEAN E. SMITH CENTER, CHAPEL HILL, N.C.
UNC Head Coach Hubert Davis
On the team's leadership and communication…
"Yeah, I mean, there's a number of guys that will speak up, and one of the things that I have encouraged everyone is that everyone should be a leader within their own personality. It's not a situation where, you know, when I was in school, where you're waiting for the junior or the senior to be able to speak up, and you had to wait your turn. I just don't think it's that way anymore. Whether you're a freshman, walk-on senior, starter off the bench. I think the more voices that you hear, the better your team is. So I like the talking in the locker room, but I like also talking on the court as well."
On the improvement in the second half…
"Navy, they're methodical in their approach, in regards to, you know, switching up defenses, man, zone…so for this new group, new team, to be able to read and adapt through the changes, I felt like it took us to the second half to really get a rhythm. We got stops, we got out in transition."
On the energy Caleb Wilson brings to the team and fans…
"His game ignites us. It ignites the crowd. It gets us going…that's the type of person, the presence that he brings, but it definitely comes from his game."
On the bench's role in tonight's win…
"Yeah…played 11 guys, you know, and so a number of guys had an opportunity, a chance, to come in and make an impact out there on the floor. I felt like each one of them did something, whether it was on offensively or defensively, that made a positive impact to help us pull away and help us win. It doesn't work without our bench."
On playing a program like Navy…
"I've been to the Naval Academy. We played there..and we were there for three or four days, and just saw the commitment that they make every day. I've been at West Point. I've been to the Citadel, and my wife is an Army child, and so I understand the sacrifice that all of them make for us to be able to experience the life that we all live, and it's an act of service — not just for themselves, but it's bigger than themselves."
UNC Center Henri Veesaar
On the week off…
"I think we are good and we worked hard all summer. We played great against Kansas. I think we have played great so far. We have won all our games. We just have to lock in and have a good week of practice to be ready for the games next week in Florida."
On the team's attitude…
"We can't get caught up in our feelings and our emotions. We have to keep a straight face and hold that throughout the game. We have to have good vibes as a team, play with energy, share the ball, and take care of it as well. That's what it takes to win big."
On Navy's performance…
"Hats off to Navy. They played a great game. They were disciplined and played physical, and we let that bother us a little bit. We gotta keep our foot on the gas and not let go of the pedal."
UNC Forward Jarin Stevenson
On whether or not Caleb [Wilson] was playing with anger in the second half…
"Yeah. He was definitely going out there. He saw that we weren't playing our best and he wasn't playing his best, so he was trying to go out there and make plays — help our team out. I think that's part of the mentality you gotta have: when things don't go well, you gotta go out, be aggressive and make plays. And again, he's a big part of the team."
On what he chalks up to the mistakes in the first half…
"There was a lot of mistakes — whether it's turnovers, messed up defensive assignments on switches, and just communication. I feel like communication is going to solve a lot — we gotta work on our communication. And yeah, we can't let them get back in the game once we get up. We gotta keep our energy and our effort up. And I mean, we're going to clean that up in the next few practices — we got a lot of time… I feel like our team is very good, we just gotta clean up a lot of things."
On how much pride he takes on doing the dirty work on the court…
"Yeah, I take pride in that: just trying to do whatever I can to help the team win. Whether it's offensive rebounds, making the extra pass, or guarding one-on-one, or getting through screens. I didn't do my best today, I feel like. But yeah, getting through, just making the right play and trying to help the team win."
On going to Fort Myers for the invitational after five games at home…
"Yeah, I'm excited for that. Get back to getting on the road and different environment — see how we handle that. I feel like we're gonna do well, and yeah, it's gonna be fun."
UNC Guard Luka Bogavac
On having consistency in the game…
"I mean its key just to maintain like the rhythm on both ends of the floor, just to be aggressive on both sides of the floor to try to get good execution."
On having slower starts in the first half of games…
"I mean, this is the game, sometimes you, I don't know, you feel more evolved, sometimes not. The bad is just part of the building of the process so — we're so far from where we'll be in next couple of months. We should upgrade every [game] so I think we're on a good [path]."
On their upcoming games on the road…
"We should be prepared to get better — It'll be great games for us also to see where we are, but for sure I think we are good and just preparing to be better."
How the team fed off of the energy of Caleb [Wilson's] dunks…
"For sure I think it helped us also to just be better also on defense, and just put us more energy on both ends of the court."
UNC Forward Caleb Wilson
On the team's first-half struggles and his own accountability…
"I feel like it was a game that we could have been better. I feel like we didn't play good first half. When I say we, I definitely include myself too. Picked it up in the second half, but got the win so that's all that matters."
On deciding to take over in the second half…
"I just decided I was going to be aggressive and just take over the game. Anybody out there, nobody will stop me."
On his mindset and expectations for himself…
"I'm not going to go out there and just be a guy on the court… everytime someone comes to see North Carolina play, they should say, 'Caleb is outstanding.'"
