Fencing Hosts Duke In Battle Of The Blues

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -Â The fencing regular season opens with Carolina hosting Duke on Saturday (November 1st).
The women's team starts fencing at 9:00 a.m. in the Loudermilk Center for Excellence-Blue Zone (3rd Floor Concourse Level). The men's team will compete at 12:30 p.m.
Preseason Highlights:
 Peter Bruk, Dagny Johnson, and Vasko Atanassov each finished in the top ten of their divisions at the October North American Cup in the first competition of the preseason. Last weekend's Nikki Franke Classic was also productive, as sophomore foilist Peter Bruk brought home a silver medal. Elden Wood also showed out with a third-place finish in sabre. Freshmen Samantha Maryash (sabre) and Elizabeth Zigalo (epee) both finished in the top five of their respective weapons.

The team finished 13th at the NCAA Championships, with Bruk, Sophia Kovacs, and Wood earning All-America honors. The men's team finished as the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships runner-up as Eli Lippman won his second career ACC Championship, ending his time in Carolina blue with another championship. Lippman earned MVP honors and was also named the ACC Men's Epee Fencer of the Year.
