Thomas Records Brace, Women's Soccer Tops Syracuse, 4-2

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- No. 23 University of North Carolina women's soccer (11-6, 5-4 ACC) claimed a 4-2 victory over Syracuse (5-9-4, 1-8-1 ACC) Sunday afternoon at Dorrance Field. The Tar Heels were led by a brace from Olivia Thomas.
Carolina got on the board 16 minutes into the match off a goal from Olivia Thomas. Thomas picked up the ball at midfield and dribbled all the way to the edge of the 18-yard box before rocketing a shot into the bottom right corner of the goal to put the Tar Heels ahead 1-0.
Just five minutes later, Thomas got back to work. Hope Munson threw the ball into the box to Olivia Thomas who was backing down a defender. Thomas used her first touch to spin the ball around the defender and sent the second touch into the back of the net to give UNC a two-point lead.
Syracuse countered six minutes later with a goal from Ashley Rauch to cut the Carolina lead to 2-1.
The goal fest continued in the 35th minute with Linda Ullmark getting on the board. Ullmark brought the ball down the right side of the 18-yard box and sent the ball over the Syracuse goalie and into the top left corner to give Carolina a 3-1 advantage.
Kate Faasse got in on the scoring in the 38th minute, netting a header off a long assist from Bella Devey. Faasse elevated over her defender to get a piece of the pass and redirect it into the net.
Carolina headed into the break up 4-1.
Syracuse scored ten minutes into the second half. Mia Klammer tucked away the goal to make it 4-2 Carolina.
UNC was able to settle the match down and control play for the final thirty minutes, coming out on top 4-2.
