MTEN Rebounds To Beat Charlotte, 4-2

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.—Constantinos Djakouris won the clinching singles match as North Carolina beat Charlotte, 4-2, on Saturday in the third-place round of the Winston-Salem regional of the ITA Kickoff Weekend at the Wake Forest Tennis Center.
Carolina won the doubles point before the 49ers took the first two singles decisions to take a 2-1 lead. The Tar Heels then got singles wins from Logan Zapp (No. 1), Vladislav Melnic (No. 2) and Djakouris (No. 3) to seize the victory.
Saturday's match was part of a four-team regional hosted by Wake Forest this weekend that also included the Demon Deacons and Memphis. The Tar Heels lost, 4-1, to the Tigers in the first round on Friday.
The duo of Melnic and Chris Xu started the day with a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles over Vasco Prata and Matias Iturbe. Freshman Nick Mangiapane and Zapp followed with the doubles clincher, beating Ivan Dreycopp and Frederic Schlossmann, 7-5 at No. 2. Tar Heels Diego Jarry and Anthony Wright were on the cusp of a win, leading by a 6-5 score, at No. 3 when their match went unfinished.
The Tar Heels played without sophomore Patrick Schoen in both singles and doubles.
With the win, Carolina improved to 2-1 this season. Charlotte lost its second in a row and fell to 1-3 in 2025.
