The Tar Heels will begin Atlantic Coast Conference play with a 7-1 record on the year. The Lions drop to 0-2-3.
How It Happened
- North Carolina took control from the start, setting the pace early with the quality of its possession and pressure into the attacking third.
- The Tar Heels nearly got on the board in the 10th minute. Linda Ullmark broke out of a press in the midfield to send a cross to Faasse through the defense, but her shot went just wide of the left post.
- UNC finally jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the 25th minute. Unable to find a lane through traffic, Ullmark sent it back to Sember who made a short pass over to Faasse. With time and space at the top of the box, Faasse uncorked a right-footed rocket into the back of the net.
- Faasse nearly made it a brace 25 seconds later with a header off a corner, but Colombia keeper Lauren Rodriguez tipped it over the crossbar for the save.
- Sember doubled the Tar Heels' lead in the 58th minute after a ball played down the left flank found the senior near the top of the 18. With her stellar footwork on full display, Sember stepped around a pair of defenders to fire a low shot with her right boot to the bottom left corner.
Inside the Box Score
- Faasse netted her team-high fifth goal of the season. She also tops the roster with 11 points.
- Sember, who has scored in three of the last four games, now has four on the year.
- With a goal and an assist, Sember recorded the first three-point game of her career.
- Carolina finished with 13 shots, six which were on target.
- Columbia, which had been averaging 12.8 shots per game, was limited to six, including only two on frame.
- The Tar Heels have held all opponents to 11 shots or fewer and five or fewer on goal.
- After not having any corners on Thursday for the first time since 2022, UNC ended with a 7-5 advantage.
- Clare Gagne made a pair of saves for her fourth shutout.
- Gagne, Trinity Armstrong, Faasse, Olivia Migli, Aria Nagai and Tessa Dellarose logged a full 90 minutes.
