Strong Saturday For Track & Field At Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—The Tar Heels won four events and secured six other top-three finishes on Saturday, the second day of the Charlotte Invitational at the Irwin Belk Track Complex.
As a whole, the Tar Heels combined for seven event wins and 12 top-three finishes over the two-day meet.
Sydney Banks led the way with the first win of the day in the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.75m and setting the ton
 In the women's javelin throw, freshman Spencer Young clinched second place with her best throw of 44.34m. Meanwhile, Bryce Kazmaier and Patrick Crockett dominated the men's javelin throw, with both surpassing their previous personal bests and finishing first and second, respectively. This marked Kazmaier's third javelin event win of the outdoor season, setting a new personal record of 65.68m, while Crockett achieved a new personal best of 57.84m.
Paul Signorelli excelled in the men's pole vault, winning the event and achieving a personal best of 5.33m, which propelled him to sixth on the Tar Heel's all-time list.Â
In the men's shot put, Spencer Williams secured second place with a significant throw of 18.10m, marking a new personal best.
In the sprints, Trevor Paschall emerged as a key competitor in the men's 400m, securing second place with a time of 47.25 seconds. Freshman Delea Martins made headlines by setting a new personal record in the 400m with a time of 53.85 seconds and in the 200m with a time of 23.99 seconds.  Reece Morgan sprinted to second place in the 200m, clocking in at a rapid 21.27 seconds, which is also a new personal record while Mark Alkins finished third in the 800m open with a time of 1:53.61.
Blaise Atkinson earned a commendable third place in the men's 110m hurdles with a time of 14.17 seconds while Matthew Harris took the top spot in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.03 seconds.Â
Additionally, Carolina's women's 4x100 relay team took second place, while the men's 4x400m team also finished second.
Next up, the Tar Heels will compete at the Liberty Qualifier on Wednesday, May 1st. The Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Championships will be held in two weeks on May 9-11 in Atlanta, GA.
