Women's Golf Advances To ACC Semifinals

Kayla Smith and Inez Ng shot 1-under-par 71s and the University of North Carolina held on to fourth place by a single shot over Duke after the final round of stroke play to advance to the semifinals in the 2024 ACC Women's Golf Championships at Porters Neck Country Club in Wilmington.
Wake Forest finished first after three days of stroke play at 23-under 841. Clemson was second at 16 under, Virginia took third at 8 under and Carolina placed fourth at 1-over 865. The Blue Devils were fifth at 866, and Florida State and NC State tied for sixth at 871.
Carolina will play top-seed and defending NCAA champion Wake Forest in match play in the semifinals Sunday at 8 a.m.
Clemson and Virginia play in the other semifinal with the winners meeting in the afternoon for the ACC title.
The Tar Heels began the day with a 10-stroke lead over the Blue Devils, but Duke pulled even with a few holes to play. Smith and Ng both birdied the 18th hole to get Carolina to 1 over and the teams were tied until the final Blue Devil on the course bogeyed the last hole to drop Duke back to 2 over.
The Tar Heels shot 283-292-290 for 1-over 865.
Carolina sophomore Megan Streicher tied for 10th in the individual standings at 3-under-par 213. She shot rounds of 69-70-74. Her 213 total and 3-under score to par are the third best by a Tar Heel in an ACC Championship and the best since 2004.
Ng (70-74-71) tied for 16th at 1-under 215, Smith (72-78-71) tied for 35th at 5-over 221, Ing Iadpluem (72-76-74) tied for 38th at 6-over 222 and Reagan Southerland (77-72-77) tied for 47th at 10-over 226.
This is the first time UNC advanced to match play since the league adopted the match play format in 2022.
Wake Forest's Rachel Kuehn shot 67 in both the second and third rounds to win the individual title at 10-under 206.
