Streicher's 10-Under Leads Women's Golf To 2nd Place Finish
March 19, 2024 | Women's Golf
Megan Streicher and Kayla Smith both finished in the top seven and North Carolina tied the third-lowest 54-hole scoring records in school history as the Tar Heel women's golf team tied for second place Tuesday at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational at the Ocean Course at Hōkūala in Lihu'e, Kaua'i.
Â
Streicher (67-70-69) placed fourth after a final-round 69 gave her a three-day total of 10-under-par 206, both of which tied the third-best scoring marks ever by a Tar Heel. The sophomore from South Africa tied her best finish in the individual standings, and established her best stroke total and lowest score to par in two seasons at Carolina.
Â
Smith shot even par in the final round to finish seventh at 7-under 209, which are among the top 10 best finishes by a Tar Heel in a tournament. It was Smith's fourth top 10 this season and the eighth of her career.
Â
Arizona State won the tournament at 46-under 822. The Tar Heels (282-278-287) tied Washington for second place at 17-under 847. Seventeen under par and 847 strokes equal the third-best 54-hole totals in UNC women's golf history.
