
Softball Picks Up A Pair Of Wins On First Day Of Carolina Classic

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The North Carolina softball team improved to 8-1 on Friday night with a pair of run-rule victories on the first day of the Carolina Classic.
The Tar Heels opened the doubleheader with a five-inning 12-4 win over Lipscomb, before capping off the day with a six-inning 9-1 victory over George Washington.
Carolina's bats were blazing once again, with the Tar Heels outhitting their two opponents .538 to .125, tallying 28 hits and drawing 12 walks in 11 innings. On the base path, Carolina went 14-for-14 in stolen base attempts, including eight against Lipscomb.
Sanaa Thompson hit a team-best .833 on the day, going 5-of-6 at the plate with 6 RBIs, five runs, two walks, two stolen bases and the first home run of her career.
In the circle, sophomore Kenna Raye Dark earned her first win of the season, allowing just one hit and one run in six innings of work with six strikeouts against the Revolutionaries.
Junior Carlie Myrtle also picked up a win in relief, tossing two innings against the Bisons, allowing two hits, one run and tallying a strikeout.
Carolina is back in action on Saturday with another pair of games, starting at 11:30 vs. Mount St. Mary's.
