February 17, 2024 | Track & Field
On the final Meet Day before the ACC Indoor Championship, Ethan Strand, Drew Regnier, Kyle Reinheimer, and Parker Wolfe set a school record, an ACC record, and had the fourth-best NCAA time of all time in the distance medley relay event at the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by Notre Dame.Â
This was the first time this season that the 20th ranked men's Tar Heel team competed in the distance medley relay.Â
Carolina also competed on day two of the Virginia Tech Challenge and had several highlight performances.Â
In the women's 200-meter, both Sydney Campbell and Jocelyn Johnson set personal bests and finished in second and third place, with Campbell recording a time of 25.18 seconds and Johnson clocking in at 25.27 seconds.
Freshmen Walker St. John and Noah Brekker made their debuts, finishing third and fourth respectively in the men's 3,000-meter. St. John recorded a time of 8:16.97, while Breker finished with a time of 8:17.78. Brekker was representing the United States after qualifying for the 2024 U-20 World Cross Country Championships in January.
In the women's shot put, Skylar Bohlman set a personal record with a throw of 14.67m on her sixth and final attempt, securing fourth place, while McKynzie Mauney finished seventh.
The Tar Heels also finished second in the women's 4x4 400-meter relay.Â
Next up is the ACC Indoor Championship starting Thursday, as the Tar Heels seek both team and individual success.
