Gymnastics Travels To Pitt For First ACC Road Test

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of North Carolina gymnastics team will face its first Atlantic Coast Conference road test against Pitt on Friday, Feb. 2, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The meet, which is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET, will air on ACCNX with Jeff Hathhorn and Olivia Miller on call.Â

- 2024 marks the first gymnastics season in the ACC. The league previously sponsored a conference championship for women's gymnastics in 1984.
- Both the Tar Heels and Panthers, who enter the meet 0-2 in league action, are seeking their first ACC victory in program history.
- Dekanoidze was named the first-ever ACC Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 9 after scoring a 9.925 on vault, a new career high and moving up to be tied for third all-time in school history.
- Isabelle Schaefer became the program's first ACC Specialist of the Week on Jan. 15, earning the honor after matching her career-high 9.925 on bars.
- Schaefer was the outright winner on bars against Clemson in UNC's last meet. Her 9.925 matched her personal best for the fourth time in her career and the second time this year.
- Dekanoidze's 9.925 on vault and Schaefer's 9.925 on bars are both tied for the highest scores in the conference on their respective events after four weeks of competition. Schaefer's average bars score of 9.881 ranks first in the ACC.Â
- In their last outing on Jan. 26 against the Tigers, UNC saw its highest score of the season on floor with a 49.1. It was its second-straight performance of 49.0+ on the event and third score of 49.0+ this year.
- North Carolina and NC State tied for first in the inaugural ACC Preseason Coaches Poll after receiving a pair of first-place votes.Â
- Lali Dekanoidze and Julia Knower were named to the first-ever ACC Preseason Watch List. Freshman Camryn Rueda was tabbed to the inaugural ACC Newcomer Watch List.Â
- In the ACC, UNC ranks third on vault (average 48.888) and beam (48.563), and fourth on bars (48.506) and floor (48.656).
