December 17, 2024 | Field Hockey
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Three members of the North Carolina field hockey program have earned NFHCA All-America honors, the organization announced on Tuesday morning. Forwards Charly Bruder and Ryleigh Heck were named to the first team with midfielder Seitske Brüning selected to the second team.
Â
The trio of Tar Heels push the program's All-America count up to 124 total awards. Bruder becomes the 43rd different Tar Heel to earn first-team recognition and along with Heck now give the team their 74th total.
Â
Bruder finished the season with the most goals of anyone in the country, scoring 27 to finish in a five-way tie for the fourth most ever scored in a season by a Tar Heel. It is the second All-America nod for the 2024 ACC Tournament MVP, who made the second team as a freshman last year.
Â
The postseason awards continue to pile up for the dynamic Heck. The ACC Offensive Player of the Year and the South Region Player of the Year, the Ocean City, N.J., native earned her third straight All-America honor by being the most dangerous open-field player in the country, scoring 15 goals and 15 assists in her junior campaign. In 2025, she will attempt to become the sixth three-time first team honoree in Carolina history.
Â
Captain Brüning bossed the midfield for the Tar Heels all year long to earn her second All-America selection, moving up to the second team in her junior season. A circle-to-circle hustler, she played a key role in every piece of Carolina's gameplan. She finished the season tied with fellow captain Katie Dixon for the fifth most points on the team while also contributing to the Tar Heels leading the country in goals against average.
