Stellar Performances For T&F At Florida & Virginia

GAINESVILLE, FLA., & CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA.—With contingents of competitors spread across a pair of states in two separate meets, the University of North Carolina men's and women's track and field teams turned in a stellar Saturday, continuing to build momentum as one of the nation's top rising programs in 2023.
The Tar Heels spent Saturday at both the Tom Jones Memorial, hosted by the University of Florida, and the Virginia Grand Prix, on the campus of the University of Virginia.
Tom Jones Memorial Saturday Highlights
• James Joycey took third in the men's hammer with a season-best 219-1 (66.78).
• Carlee Hansen led three Tar Heels in the half mile, finishing 18th overall in 2:07.18. Ella Auderset was 33rd in 2:09.29 and Taryn Parks was 35th in 2:09.47.
• Kyle Reinheimer posted a season-best 1:48.68 en route to a Top 10 finish in the Tom Jones' 800 …
• Three Tar Heels placed in the top nine in the women's college discus. JoEllen Driscoll led the way in seventh overall (49.19m), while McKynzie Mauney (47.19m) and Skylar Bohlman (47.06m) finished eighth and ninth, respectively.
• James Joycey and Troy Yearwood both finished in the top nine in the Hammer Throw (Invitational). Joycey's throw of 66.78m was good for third place, while Yearwood's 64.24m was ninth.

• Craig Saddler II won the men's 400-meter hurdles in a season-best time of 51.25 seconds. Matthew Harris was third in 53.62 seconds.
• Kayla Hunt won the women's 100 with a personal-best time of 11.62 seconds.
• Tar Heel alumna Jill Shippee posted a personal-best 239-6 (73.01) in the women's hammer, putting her at No. 7 in the world this year in the event.
• Brianna White won the women's 200-meter in 23.69 seconds.
• The women's 4x400 relay team of Jocelyn Johnson, Alyssa Hernandez, Paige Floriea and Brianna White took first place in a season-best time of 3:42.47.
