Big Day For Track & Field At Penn State National Invitational

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.—The University of North Carolina men's and women's indoor track and field teams both made dents in their respective program record books on Saturday in the second and final day of the Penn State National Invitational.
On the men's side, sophomore Ethan Strand turned in the second-best performance in program history in the 3000m, winning the event in a time of 7:52.30.
Meanwhile, the women's distance medley team of Brynn Brown, Brianna White, Carlee Hansen and Taryn Parks finished second in a time of 10:57.04, the second-best time in UNC annals.
Junior Sydney Banks finished second in the women's 200m and third in the high jump.
The Tar Heels will return to action next weekend at the Husker Invitational in Lincoln, Neb., on Friday and Saturday February 3-4.
Carolina Saturday Notables
• In addition to the dominant performance by Strand in the men's 3000m, John Tatter took fifth in 8:03.33, and Patrick Anderson was eighth in 8:09.50.
• Spencer Williams had a personal-best in the shot put of 16.55m, finishing seventh.
• Kayla Hunt finished second and posted a personal best in the women's 200m with a time of 24.50.
• The men's distance relay team of Aiden Neal, Matthew Harris, Kyle Reinheimer and Michael Spragley finished fourth.
• Kayla Hunt finished second in the women's 200m (24.50) and third in the high jump (1.71/5-7 ¼).
