Top Seed UNC Cruises Over Gamecocks, 4-0

CARY, N.C. - No. 1 ranked and top seed North Carolina held serve with a 4-0 victory over No. 28 South Carolina in the second round of the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championship from Cary Tennis Park.
North Carolina (26-2) extends its streak to 12 straight appearances in the NCAA Round of 16 with the shutout of the Gamecocks, who end the season with a 15-11 record.
The Tar Heels will face No. 16 seed Florida next Friday at Cary Tennis Park with the winner advancing to the NCAA Championships site in Champaign, Illinois. First serve is slated for 4 p.m.
Carolina had one of its strongest performances in recent weeks in doubles against a trio of ranked tandems. Alle Sanford and Carson Tanguilig set the tone on court two with a 6-1 victory over No. 25 Sara Hamner and Misa Malkin.
The Gamecocks won court three, but UNC's second ranked team of Fiona Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty secured the opening point with a 6-2 win over No. 89 Ayana Akli and Ana Cruz on court one.
Crawley picked up her NCAA-leading 41st singles win on court four to increase UNC's advantage to 2-0. The San Antonio, Texas, native won 6-3, 6-0, over Elise Mills.
No. 51 Carson Tanguilig continued her outstanding freshman season with a 6-4, 6-2, win over Misa Malkin and Anika Yarlagadda closed out the match with a win on court six over Gracie Mulville, 6-4, 6-4.
Perhaps the best match of the day went unfinished on court one with the battle between No. 5 Cameron Morra and No. 6 Sara Hamner
