Silvers in Decathlon & Men's Javelin Lead UNC At ACC Outdoors

DURHAM, N.C. – Two Tar Heels were among the top five in the decathlon to lead the Tar Heels on Day 2 of the Atlantic Coast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Duke's Morris Williams Stadium.
Isaac Young placed second in the field with a personal-best 7173 points and Sam Corley was fifth with 7014 points, making them the 10th and 11th Tar Heels ever to surpass 7,000 points in the decathlon.
Young and Roman Mitchell in the men's javelin were the two Tar Heels to medal on Friday, both taking silver to keep the Carolina men in second place overall with 46 points, just behind FSU with 50.
The UNC women are in fifth place after two days of competition, but with over half the events (11 of 21) still to be contested.
The only track event final on Friday was the 3,000-meter steeplechase. On the women's side, Sasha Neglia ran a PR of 10:03.06 to take fourth in the field and Sarah Trainor was 11th. In the men's race, Marshall Williamson was 10th.
Most of the track action Friday was prelims, with several Tar Heels turning in impressive performances. Isaiah Palmer won his heat in the men's 400 meters and advanced on to the finals with the seventh-fastest time overall. Anna Keefer, who won the long jump on Thursday, had the second-fastest time in the women's 100 meters, 11.29, to reach the final.
