LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville third baseman Ben Metzinger hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the 10th inning and give the 12th-ranked Cardinals a 9-8 victory over No. 22 North Carolina at Jim Patterson Field on Saturday.Â
Â
Â
The Diamond Heels (21-10, 7-7 ACC) scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning and pitcher Caden O'Brien pitched a hitless bottom half to send the game into extra innings.Â
Â
Â
Johnny Castagnozzi led off the ninth with a double and Danny Serretti followed by drawing a walk before Alberto Osun came to the plate with two outs. Osuna lifted a fly ball into deep right field, but Isaac Humphrey dropped the ball allowing both runners to score, tying the game.Â
Â
Â
Louisville (22-8, 8-3) led 7-3 after six innings, but Serretti crushed a three-run home run to right field in the top of the seventh to make it a one run game. The Cards then got one run back in the bottom half of the inning.
Â
Â
Serretti finished the game 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs.Â
Â
Â
Carolina got out to a 2-0 lead behind Osuna's two-run homer in the second inning, his third of the series and 10th of the season.
Â
Â
The Cardinals then scored five times in the fourth inning, with Dalton Rushing leading off with a solo home run and Ben Bianco hitting a grand slam.Â
Â
