Wrestling Dominates Little Rock In 37-6 Victory

CHAPEL HILL - The No. 22 North Carolina wrestling team completed a 2-0 weekend with a dominating performance on Sunday, downing Little Rock, 37-6, inside Carmichael Arena.
The Tar Heels are now 6-4 overall with a 1-0 record in the ACC. The win extends UNC's home dual win streak to six dating back to last season.
"I thought we looked good today," said North Carolina head coach Coleman Scott. "We want to win every time we set foot on the mat, and I think we had some good performances today."
Spencer Moore put the Tar Heels up 4-0 early with the 11-2 major decision over Jayden Carson. Joe Heilmann followed at 133 pounds, earning a 13-3 major decision over Jaylen Carson.
Kizhan Clarke picked up an 8-2 decision before Zach Sherman earned a much deserved 14-2 major decision over Joseph Bianchi. Austin O'Connor ended his match with a score of 24-9 to achieve the technical fall. At 165, Little Rock's Tyler Brennan used a second-period pin over Sonny Santiago to score the Trojans only points of the dual.
In the third period, Clay Lautt used a late takedown to pick up the close 4-3 decision over Triston Wills. At 184 pounds, Gavin Kane was in control for most of the match, earning the pin in the third period.
Max Shaw continued his recent dominance with a convincing 20-5 technical fall. Brandon Whitman got back in the win column to round out the order with a hard-fought 5-2 decision.
Next Friday, North Carolina returns to action traveling to Charlottesville to take on ACC foe Virginia. The Tar Heels and Cavaliers meet at 7 p.m., and it will be broadcasted live on ACC Network.
