Sibomana To Represent DR Congo, UNC At U20 Championships

BRATISLAVA, Slovakia – North Carolina wrestling freshman Dunia Sibomana will represent the Tar Heels and his native country of the Democratic Republic of Congo at the U20 World Championships this weekend.
Wrestling at 57 KG, Sibomana enters this weekend's tournament as the reigning U20 and Senior African Champion, winning gold in both events in April. In U20 competition, Sibomana outscored opponents 33-1 with three technical falls, followed by a 25-5 scoring pace with two technical falls in Senior Championship matches.
Sibomana arrived in Chapel Hill as a three-time New York state champion for Long Beach High School in his prep career, with state championships at 102-, 116- and 118-pounds. Sibomana became Long Beach's second three-time state champion, joining former Tar Heel wrestler and two-time All-America Al Palacio.
Competition from Bratislava gets underway on Friday (Aug. 21) with the 57 KG qualification rounds, running through the finals Saturday evening (Aug. 22).
