Zhou Leads UNC on Day One of Cavalier Match Play

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Although North Carolina dropped its quarterfinal match to Virginia Tech, 3-2, the Tar Heels lead NC State, 2-1, in the semifinal round on Tuesday afternoon on day one of the Cavalier Match Play in Charlottesville, Virginia.

The semifinal round was suspended due to darkness with two matches remaining at Birdwood Golf Course. Nicole Adam and Kayla Smith will conclude their matches Wednesday at 7:45 a.m.

Freshman Crista Izuzquiza won her match vs. Virginia Tech's Alyssa Montgomery 4&3. Junior Jennifer Zhou clinched her match one up against Emily Mahar.

Zhou's success continued into her second match, defeating NC State's Lea Klimentova three up. Freshman Nalatia Aseguinolaza followed suit with the same score against Inja Fric.

The winner of UNC-NC State will face Louisville beginning at 9:25 a.m. while the loser will take on Richmond at 10:37 a.m.
