ATHENS, Ga. – Senior Jill Shippee earned a new lifetime best and extended the Atlantic Coast Conference and school records she already owned with a hammer throw of 68.65m (225-2) Friday at the Torrin Lawrence Memorial meet, hosted by the University of Georgia. Shippee's record-breaking throw, her fifth of sixth throws on the day, ranks fifth in the NCAA this season.

Competing at Georgia's Spec Towns Track, Shippee's throw was the headline in a successful day for the Tar Heels, who also took two other firsts in field events. In the men's discus, senior Daniel McArthur threw a personal best 57.19m (187-7), which ranks second in school history.

In men's hammer, junior James Joycey won with a throw of 67.06m (220-0).

Freshman Brianna White highlighted the Tar Heel track performances with a second-place finish in the women's 200m. Her time of 23.57 led four Tar Heels in the top 10.

On the men's side, senior Isaiah Palmer was third in the men's 200m and freshman Craig Saddler II was third in the men's 400m hurdles.

The Tar Heels continue competition in Athens on Saturday.
