Rabinowitz, Mulvaney Earn All-America Honors In Sabre

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Two Tar Heels earned All-America honors Friday as the NCAA Fencing Championships continued and men's competition wrapped up.
Junior Beni Rabinowitz placed sixth overall in men's sabre to earn All-America second team honors and freshman Alec Mulvaney was just behind in ninth for honorable mention.
Rabinowitz qualified for NCAA Championships for the third year in a row. As a freshman, he placed 13th, and he was set to go again in 2020 before the event was canceled.
Mulvaney was competing at NCAAs for the first time.
In foil, junior James Mulligan placed 13th. He also qualified last year, and this year was finally able to compete.
In epee, a pair of freshmen represented the Tar Heels, with Henry Shugart placing 14th and Reza Merchant 18th.
Women's competition gets underway Saturday at 9 a.m., with sophomore Darby Haskel and freshman Allegra Parker representing the Tar Heels. In women's foil, starting at 11 a.m., it's freshman Tarleton Hunt and junior Aubrey Molloy. In women's sabre, beginning at 1:30 p.m., senior Clara Somfelean and sophomore Abigale Parker will represent UNC.

With two days of fencing left, North Carolina sits seventh overall in team points. The team championship is a combined title for the men and women.
