PITTSBURGH – The North Carolina women's gymnastics team took fifth place in the East Atlantic Gymnastic League Championships on Saturday afternoon with a total team score of 195.275. This is the highest score the team has posted in the Conference championships since 2012, when they received a total score of 195.550.

The Tar Heels competed in the first of two sessions for the EAGL Championships alongside NC State and George Washington University. Pitt, Temple, Towson, and LIU competed in the second session.

North Carolina began the meet on floor exercise, totaling a score of 48.875 on the event. Sophomore Elizabeth Culton led the team on the event with a score of 9.850. Fellow sophomore Brianna Greenlow was close behind, with a score of 9.800 of her own. Senior Lily Dean added a score of 9.775, and freshman Kate Green received a notable 9.750.

Up next, the Tar Heels moved on to vault, where they totaled 48.875 for their second-highest score of the season on this event. Junior Emery Summey earned the highest score for UNC with a stuck landing, receiving a 9.825. Fellow junior Drew Aldridge and redshirt-freshman Hallie Thompson each tallied 9.800s, as well.

UNC faced a difficult turn on the uneven bars in the third rotation with two falls. Their 48.250 total was led by Elizabeth Culton's career-high score of 9.925. Brianna Greenlow also added a strong 9.800 to the tally, alongside Thompson's 9.750 and freshman Jamie Shearer's 9.725 on the event.

Despite their struggles on the uneven bars, the Tar Heels did not let it phase them going into their final rotation on the balance beam. The team posted their highest score of the season on the event with a 49.275. Culton and Thompson each received a score of 9.900, and Shearer and Summey each added a 9.850 to the total.

Culton earned the first place title on uneven bars, balance beam, and in the all-around competition with her score of 39.375. Thompson shared the first place title on the balance beam with Culton with their score of 9.900 on the event.
