Women's Golf Heads to Briar’s Creek Invitational
March 12, 2021 | Women's Golf
CHAPEL HILL – Returning to the Palmetto state for the third time this spring, the North Carolina women's golf travels to the Briar's Creek Invitational, hosted by College of Charleston, Monday and Tuesday at the 6,110-yard, par-72 Golf Club at Briar's Creek in Johns Island, S.C.

"We took a good look at our performances at the Gamecock Intercollegiate," head coach Jan Mann said. "We reminded our student-athletes that through the second round of Gamecock, we were leading but let it slip away from us. We talked about how we can improve and prevent that from happening in the future. We're a young team. Our biggest takeaway was that we have to maintain a sense of calm through the adversity of the tournament. I'm hoping and confident that the team will play with a sense of calm at Briar's Creek and we can perform well if we do those things."

The Tar Heels starting five includes freshman Nicole Adam, freshman Crista Izuzquiza, sophomore Krista Junkkari, freshman Natalia Aseguinolaza and junior Jennifer Zhou. Fans can follow live results on GolfStat.com.

Carolina will compete alongside ACC opponents, Boston College, Miami and NC State. Playing rounds one and two Monday, teams will tee off from a shot-gun start at 9 a.m. Tuesday's 18 holes begin on No. 1 and No. 10 between 8 a.m. and 10:06 a.m.

"There's a sense of familiarity with the region as we head back to the Charleston region of South Carolina for the second time this spring," Mann said. "Briar's Creek is open and a little more forgiving off the tee than Turtle Point but it is still a challenging course. The greens are large but undulating so we'll have to perform well, but it will be more relaxed off the tee which should help our team."

Most recently, Carolina finished 13th at the Gamecock Intercollegiate. Freshman Adam earned her first top-10 finish, shooting even-par over three rounds in Columbia, S.C. The Tar Heels won the 2018 Briar's Creek Invitational led by Kelly Whaley '18 who finished 12-under-par individually.

Facing a short turnaround, North Carolina travels to Raleigh, N.C. Saturday, March 20 for NC State's Big Four Challenge.
