Women's Tennis Reaches Seventh Straight ITA Indoor Final
February 6, 2021 | Women's Tennis
STILLWATER, Oklahoma - Freshman Fiona Crawley won the clinching point to send the North Carolina women's tennis team to its seventh-straight appearance in the finals of the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The top-ranked Tar Heels won their semifinals match by a 4-1 scoreline over No. 5 Pepperdine on Saturday afternoon from Oklahoma State's Greenwood Tennis Center.
North Carolina (6-0) will player the winner of Saturday's second semifinal match between UCLA and Texas in Sunday's finale at 7:30 p.m. ET. UNC defeated the Bruins last season in the title match to earn the fourth championship in program history.
Carolina notched the doubles point for the second day in a row to grab the early 1-0 advantage. Cameron Morra and Elizabeth Scotty was first off with a 6-1 victory on court two, while freshman Reilly Tran and senior Alle Sanford secured the doubles point with a 6-4 win on court three.
Sixth-ranked Morra breezed over Lexi Ryngler, 6-0, 6-1, on court three. The Waves earned their lone point on court four to get within 2-1 of the Tar Heels, but the bottom of the lineup for the No. 1 team in the nation was too much to handle.
No. 49 Makenna Jones won 6-3, 6-0, on court five, and No. 120 Crawley remained unbeaten in her rookie season with a 6-3, 6-4, victory on court six.
The Tar Heels have stretched their winning streak to 24 matches, equalling the 2019 team for the second longest streak in program history.
