Tar Heels Drop Weekend Finale at UNCG

The Tar Heels jumped to a three-run lead early off the home run outings by Hutcherson and Godwin before UNCG claimed a 5-4 lead by the fifth inning. Hutcherson plated two more runs on a double to left in the sixth. However, the Spartans' four-run sixth inning ensured the win, 8-5.
Following the weekend, Carolina slides to 6-9 while UNCG improves to 7-5 on the season.
Key Moments
» Abby Settlemyre reached on a bunt-single before stealing second. After a walk by Godwin, the Tar Heels pulled off a two-out double-steal. However, a popup stranded both on base.
» Carolina's defense started strong as Bri Stubbs snagged a deep fly-out in right before the Tar Heels' infield turned their sixth double play of the season.
» Doubling in her second at-bat of the day, Settlemyre sparked Carolina's three-run third inning. Hutcherson launched her first home run of the season to right-center for a 2-0 lead before Godwin followed suit with a second home run, upping the score to three.
» After three scoreless frames, Maycin Brown put UNCG on the board with an RBI-single through the right side.
» The Spartans tallied three-straight solo home runs in the fifth by Delaney Cumbie, Kayleigh Willis and Samantha Lagrama to take a one-run lead, 4-3.
» In the sixth, Hutcherson reclaimed the lead for Carolina, launching a two-run double to left following a walk by Destiny Middleton and bunt-single by Settlemyre. Hutcherson's deep ball was nearly a home run as it hit the top of the wall and bounced back onto the warning track.
» UNCG's Willis responded with her second home run of the game for a grand slam and the 8-5 lead in the sixth for the win.
» Starting pitcher Hannah George allowed two earned runs in four complete innings before Alyssa Stanley and Caroline Cagle tossed the final two.
