Tar Heels Finish Seventh at Mason Rudolph Championship

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - The University of North Carolina women's golf team concluded the Mason Rudolph Championship on Sunday afternoon with a seventh place finish at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The Tar Heels finished with a cumulative tournament team score of 14-over-par (878), and in the final round the team combined for a score of 10-over-par (298). 
Senior Brynn Walker led the way for the Tar Heels in the final round with an even-par 72. Walker had the third lowest scoring average on par-3's, 2.92 strokes per hole, and recorded 15 birdies across all three rounds. She would go on to finish in a tie for 23rd place.
Freshman Kayla Smith, who entered the closing round six strokes off of the leader at 1-under-par, had an up-and-down day and recorded a 2-over-par 74. Smith's round started off well with a 1-under-par front-nine, however, she carded three bogeys on the back-nine to finish in a tie for 12th place.
Junior Ava Bergner tied for 38th place after a 5-over-par 77 on Sunday afternoon. Bergner's round featured one birdie, eleven pars and six bogeys.
Sophomore Nicole Lu and freshman Krista Junkkari both recorded a 4-over-par 76 and tied for 46th place.
With a total team score of 2-over-par (866), the University of Houston Cougars climbed five spots on the final day to win the Mason Rudolph Championship.
Carolina will return to the tee at the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational on October 11, at the UNC Finley Golf Course in Chapel Hill.
