Tar Heels Head To Virginia For Cavalier Classic
September 13, 2019 | Cross Country
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. — The University of North Carolina cross country teams are set to continue their season on Saturday, Sept. 14 with the Cavalier Classic at Panorama Farms in Earlysville, Va., just north of the University of Virginia's campus in Charlottesville. The men's 8K will take to the field at 9 a.m. with the women's 5K following at approximately 9:40 a.m.
"This meet will be a great opportunity for us to continue laying the foundation for this season," director of track & field and cross country Chris Miltenberg said. "We want to emphasize that the way we prepare and the way we compete will be the same regardless of where we are or which teams are running beside us. Further developing those habits and routines this weekend will be another big step towards being able to consistently compete at our best in any regular season or postseason meets."
The Tar Heels are expected to travel 22 student-athletes — 12 men and 10 women — to Panorama Farms. Both teams will race against cross country programs from Virginia, Tennessee and Norfolk State while Duke will join the men's field and Maryland the women's.
All 11 men's competitors from the Elon Opener will make the trip to Virginia with senior Brandon Tubby (Hillsborough, N.J.) expected to make his 2019 cross country debut.
Seven of Carolina's eight competitors from Elon Opener women's 4K will also make their second appearances of the regular season. Three freshmen are expected to join the Cavalier Classic travel roster — Lizzy Harding (Vail, Colo.), Naomi Harding (Vail, Colo.) and Alex Morris (Naperville, Ill.).
