Carolina Downs Virginia for Second ACC Sweep
April 7, 2019 | Softball
CHAPEL HILL – Limiting the Cavaliers to four hits in 10 innings, the Tar Heels downed Virginia, 8-0 in both games of Sunday's doubleheader to clinch their second sweep of the season.
Â
The Tar Heels tallied 18 hits Sunday vs. UVA, highlighted Lexi Godwin's grand slam in game one. Both Megan Dray and Brittany Pickett homered in the series finale to total six extra-base hits on Sunday.
Â
The Tar Heels outscored Virginia, 24-0 in the series to mark the first time program history that Carolina did not allow a run in a three-game ACC series (beginning in 2005). This is the first time that UNC did not allow a run in three straight games since 2014.
Â
Carolina returns to action at 4 p.m. Tuesday to host Coastal Carolina and 6 p.m. Wednesday to host Liberty. The Tar Heels improve to 22-13, 11-4 in the ACC while UVA falls to 16-21, 5-10 in conference.
