Tar Heels Begin ACC Play at Duke

CHAPEL HILL – Facing the Blue Devils on the road for the first time in program history, the Tar Heels kick off ACC play at Duke Friday through Sunday in Durham, North Carolina. UNC travels with a three-game winning streak, out-scoring its opponents 26-7 in the span.

Due to the weather forecast, the Tar Heels will now face Duke 3 p.m. Friday and play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. Check back on GoHeels.com for updates. Recently for Carolina (9-8)
Thanks to nine Carolina hits, including two home runs by starting pitcher Hannah George, the Tar Heels downed Charlotte, 9-0, on Tuesday night at Anderson Stadium. George not only tossed Carolina's second shutout of the season, but also drove in seven RBI to tie the UNC single-game record. The freshman slugged two home runs Tuesday night – the first of which was a grand slam. In addition to George, both Leah Murray and Kiani Ramsey went 2-for-2 at the plate. Murray came around to score three Carolina runs and Ramsey drove in two. Campbell Hutcherson was a spark in the 9-hole with a 2-for-3 outing.
» Both of Carolina's grand slams this season were hit by freshmen: Kiersten Licea vs. Michigan on Feb. 15 and Hannah George vs. Charlotte.
» Hannah George's seven RBI tied a Carolina single-game record. Most recently, Amber Parrish drove in seven runs vs. Virginia on March 28, 2015. Megan Smith was the first Tar Heel to plate seven runs on March 14, 1997 vs. Marshall.
» The Tar Heels upped their single-game high to six stolen bases, totaling 30 for the season.

Beginning the season with quality wins over Notre Dame and Liberty at the PV College Challenge, the Blue Devils went 3-1 in their most recent home tournament but dropped a 4-5 decision at Elon Wednesday. Senior Reilly Metzger leads Duke with a .348 average.
