DURHAM, N.C. – With the game-winning run at the plate, Leah Murray made a diving grab at second to end the game and clinch Carolina's 4-2 victory over Duke on Friday afternoon in Durham, North Carolina.
The Tar Heels scored in the first and third innings before Kristina Burkhardt upped UNC's score to four. Hannah George went the distance for her fifth win of the season. Carolina improves to 10-8 in the ACC Opener while Duke falls to 9-13.
Key Moments vs. Duke
» With two outs, Abby Settlemyre drew a walk before a single by Berlynne Delamora single down the first-base line put Tar Heels on the corners. Megan Dray put Carolina on the board with a blooper to shallow for the 1-0 lead.
» Delamora's momentum continued with single to right in the third that allowed Kiani Ramsey to score.
» Carolina retired the Blue Devils in order in the third.
» In response to Duke's RBI-double, Zoë Goodman pinch hit a single to right before Kristina Burkhardt drove in two on a liner up the middle.
» The Blue Devils strung together three hits in the bottom of the seventh and scored one on Deja Davis' RBI-single. With the winning run at the plate, Murray made a stop in the gap to clinch the win.
