
Carolina Falls to Georgia Tech, Series Even at 1-1

CHAPEL HILL – Despite climbing back from an eight-run deficit to bring the score within four, North Carolina dropped a 13-5 decision to Georgia Tech on Saturday afternoon to even up the series at 1-1.
Kristina Burkhardt kept the Tar Heels alive with a two-out, two-run triple in the fifth to spark a four-run comeback. However, Tech's 13 runs on 12 hits powered the Yellow Jackets to a win. Both Kiani Ramsey and Burkhardt had multi-hit games for Carolina with three and two, respectively.
Carolina and the Yellow Jackets will play the rubber match Sunday at 1 p.m. UNC falls to 16-11, 6-2 in conference play. Tech improves to 21-12, 4-4 in the ACC.
Key Moments
» Picking up where she left off, Megan Dray sent a blooper to shallow right for an RBI-single to score Ramsey who reached on a bunt-single.
» Georgia Tech's Crosby Huckabay answered back with a solo-shot in the second to even up the score. Breanna Roper gave the Jackets their first lead of the weekend with a three-run shot to left field. An RBI-double finalized the inning's score at five runs for GT.
» Entering in relief in the second, Hannah Nommensen recorded a strikeout for her first out in her 2.1 innings. After an RBI walk, starting pitcher Hannah George reentered in the fourth inning.
» GT upped the score to eight on a two-run home run by Katie Krzus in the fifth. Huckabay came home on an error to make it 9-1.
» With two outs, Leah Murray singled up the middle and Ramsey doubled to left, putting Carolina in scoring position. Burkhardt launched a two-run triple to right before Berlynne Delamora sent a ball to second, upping Carolina's score to four.
» George dished out back-to-back strikeouts in the sixth inning while also retiring the NCAA hits leader Breanna Roper on groundout.
» After single by Lexi Godwin, Campbell Hutcherson battled through an 11-pitch at-bat before lacing the ball through the right side, allowing Tainasha Vines to score on an error.
» Georgia Tech scored four in the seventh to secure the win.
