Tar Heels in Third After Strong Day at the Tar Heel Classic Hosted by Suzy Whaley

La Romana, DO – At the conclusion of the first two rounds of the Tar Heel Classic hosted by Suzy Whaley, the North Carolina Tar Heels find themselves in third place, chasing the leaders headed into the final round on Saturday.
Junior Brynn Walker led the way for the Tar Heels in the first two rounds at the par-72 6,140 yards Casa de Campo Teeth of the Dog Course. Currently tied for ninth overall, Walker's even-par 72 first round was highlighted by two birdies. Riding the momentum from her first round, Walker's 1-under-par second round featured four birdies.
As a team, the Tar Heels are in third place after posting scores of 285 and 291 in the first and second rounds. The team is nine strokes behind the Wake Forest Demon Deacons, the overall leader.
In addition to Walker's strong performances in the first and second rounds, senior Kelly Whaley and freshman Nicole Lu recorded their best rounds of the spring season. In a tie for eleventh, Lu's opening 2-under-par round featured four birdies, which included three birdies on the back nine. Whaley's opening 1-under-par round also featured four birdies, with back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15.
Jennifer Zhou opened the tournament with an even-par 72 but relinquished four strokes in her second round with a four-over-par 76.
Ava Bergner's opening day was highlighted by and even-par 72 in her second round of the tournament.
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons lead the tournament after the first two rounds. The third and final round of the Tar Heel Classic hosted by Suzy Whaley will begin on Saturday morning at 7:30.
