Tar Heels Advance In Chicago With Win Over Baylor

CHICAGO – North Carolina advanced at the ITA Indoor Team Championships on Friday morning, beating Baylor 4-0 in a top-10 battle.
The eighth-ranked Tar Heels improved to 6-1 with the win, while the No. 9 Bears fell to 8-2.
UNC advances to face another Texas school, No. 15 TCU, on Saturday at 10 a.m. ET. TCU knocked off No. 3 Mississippi State 4-1 in the first round on Friday.
Against Baylor, the Tar Heels claimed the doubles point with wins on Court 2 (William Blumberg and Blaine Boyden in a tiebreaker) and Court 3 (Mac Kiger and Simon Soendergaard).
With the advantage going into doubles, Kiger was the first to add a team point, with a speedy 6-4, 6-0 win over Jimmy Bendeck on Court 6.
Freshman Brian Cernoch beat Sven Lah 6-3, 6-4 on Court 4 to bring the Tar Heels within a point.
Junior William Blumberg on Court 1 and sophomore Benjamin Sigouin on Court 2 both went into third sets. Meanwhile both junior Josh Peck on Court 3 and Boyden on Court 5 were in tiebreakers to try to close out the match. Peck's match went into a third set, but Boyden, the team's only senior, beat Adrian Boitan 6-2, 7-6(7-4) to give the Tar Heels the team victory.
