MAILIBU, Calif. - Freshman Anika Yarlagadda lost in three sets in the singles final of the Blue Draw at the Women's Collegiate Invitational from Pepperdine University on Sunday.

Lisa Zaar from Pepperdine outlasted Yarlagadda 7-6 (5), 3-6, 1-0 (5) to bring home the title.

The Tar Heel rookie from West Bloomfield, Mich., had a fantastic week in southern California, defeating Tereze Kolarova of Arizona State on Saturday in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Earlier in the tournament, Yarlagadda took down Duke's Hannah Zhao in a three-set battle by scores of 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 on Friday. The win marked her second win in as many days against an ACC foe after defeating Florida State's Nandini Das on Thursday.

In doubles action, Alexandra Vagranov and Taylor Johnson of UCLA beat Yarlagadda and Sophia Patel, 6-4.

On Thursday, junior No. 110 Alle Sanford picked up a first round win over Niluka Madurawe of Stanford, 6-2, 6-2, but was upended in the second round by No. 14 Ashley Lahey of Pepperdine, 6-4, 6-3. Lahey is coming off last weekend's victory in the Oracle ITA Masters where she defeated UNC's Alexa Graham in the second round.

Sanford won a pair of addition singles matches over the weekend against Andrea Cerdan (Michigan) and Alexandra Vagramov (UCLA).

Yarlagadda and Patel defeated Arizona State's Ilze Hattingh and Kolarova in the doubles bracket.
