#3 UNC Sweeps Doubleheader From Elon and Charlotte

CHAPEL HILL – No. 3 North Carolina started off the 2019 women's tennis season with two victories over Elon and Charlotte on Saturday at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Tar Heels started off the day defeating Elon, 6-1. Alle Sanford and Jessie Aney clinched the doubles point on court two, winning 6-2.
In singles, Sanford quickly made the overall score 2-0 after winning 6-0, 6-1 on court 3. No. 21 Cameron Morra followed on court two, 6-2, 6-0. No. 2 Makenna Jones sealed the deal on court one, 6-0, 6-0, giving Carolina its first victory of the season.
In the second match of the day, Carolina downed Charlotte, 4-0, to post its second victory of the day.
In the doubles match, for the second time on Saturday, Sanford and Aney grabbed the doubles point with an ace to end the match.
On to singles play, Chloe Ouellet-Pizer was a straight-set winner on court six, winning 6-2, 6-2, advancing the score to 2-0. Seconds later, #4 Sara Daavettila won on court one, 6-1,6-0. To secure the win for Carolina, #18 Alexa Graham finished up with a 6-3, 6-3 victory.
Carolina (2-0) travels to Las Vegas next weekend for the Freeman Memorial Championship. They will be back in action at home Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 5 pm against East Carolina.
