September 22, 2018 | Women's Golf
FRANKLIN, Tenn. – With final round of the Mason Rudolph Championship suspended due to storms Saturday afternoon, North Carolina is in 9th place with a +19 at the Vanderbilt Legends Club. The second round was played Saturday morning with the third and final round immediately following in an attempt to finish the tournament before inclement weather arrived.
In what was a tough second round that saw very few golfers shoot under par, Kelly Whaley shined. She posted a 5-under 67 for the second-lowest round of her career. Her 67 was good for the second-lowest score of the round among all golfers. Whaley recorded seven birdies in the round to just two bogeys. Whaley is 1-over thru 10 holes in the final round putting her at 4-under par and tied for fifth for the tournament.
After a career-low 67 yesterday, Jennifer Zhou stayed steady in the second round with a 2-over 74. She is 3-over thru 11 holes of the final round, bringing her to even par for the tournament.
Brynn Walker had another up-and-down round and ultimately shot a 6-over 78. After a fast start with a birdie on No. 8 because of the shotgun start, she double-bogeyed the ninth. There would be two more birdies and another double-bogey in the round as well. Walker sits at 2-over thru 11 holes of the final round and is at 13-over for the tournament.
Nicole Lu struggled to find her rhythm during the second round, shooting a 7-over 79. However, her rhythm returned at the start of the third round as she birdied two of the first three holes. Lu is now 1-over thru nine holes on the round and 10-over for the tournament.
Despite a pair of birdies, Ava Bergner had a tough second round shooting a 9-over 81. She is now 6-over thru 10 holes of the third round.
Mariana Ocano, playing as an individual, has been very steady throughout the weekend. She carded a 2-over 74 in the second round and is 1-under thru 11 holes in the final round. Overall, Ocano is 2-under for the tournament and tied for 10th.
The weather forecast is projecting a lot of rain through the night. While Vanderbilt University and tournament organizers are hopeful for a 9 a.m. ET (8 CT) start time, they are thinking play might not resume until the afternoon.
