Third-ranked North Carolina dropped a close match to No. 2 Ohio State Sunday in the consolation round at the ITA National Team Indoor Championship, falling 4-3 in Seattle.

The Tar Heels claimed the doubles point, winning on Court 1 (sophomore William Blumberg and senior Robert Kelly) and Court 3 (juniors Anu Kodali and Blaine Boyden). The Buckeyes then took the first three points in singles, winning in straight sets on courts two, six and three.

Carolina got a point from Court 1 in the day's premier matchup, between fourth-ranked Blumberg and fifth-ranked Mikael Torpegaard. Blumberg won it in straight sets, 6-3 and 7-6 (7-5), drawing the team score to 3-2. Blaine Boyden's win on Court 5 made it 3-3 with just the Court 4 matchup between sophomore Josh Peck and OSU's Kyle Seelig remaining. Seelig won the first set 6-4. The second set went to a tie-breaker, which the Buckeyes eventually claimed 7-5.

The Tar Heels now have a break in the schedule before they open Atlantic Coast Conference play on March 2 at home against Virginia Tech.
