Tar Heels Finish Seventh at Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational

CHAPEL HILL - Senior Kelly Whaley led the way for the Tar Heels in the third and final round of the Ruth Chris's Tar Heel Invitational at the UNC Finley Golf Course on Sunday afternoon. The Tar Heels' women's golf team (+20) finished tied for seventh out of the 18 teams competing.
Finishing in a tie for 18th, Whaley followed up her first two rounds of 72-74 with an even-par 72 to finish 2-over for the tournament. Starting on the back-nine, she started off strong with three birdies in her first twelve holes. In addition to Whaley, the Tar Heels posted a team score of 293 (+22). Notably, junior Roshnee Sharma (+16), who was an individual competitor for the Tar Heels, posted her career low 72 in the final round.
Freshmen Nicole Lu (+4) and Jennifer Zhou (+1) posted a matching score of 1-over-par 73. Zhou fought her way back to 1-over-par after starting with six bogeys in her first nine holes. Lu's round featured three birdies and four bogeys.
Mariana Ocano (+16) recorded her best round of the tournament with a 3-over-par 75. Brynn Walker (+20) finished with an 8-over-par 80.
Additionally, individual competitors Ava Bergner (+6) and Clementina Rodriguez (+48), posted scores of 74 and 88 in the final round.
Wake Forest University's Emilia Migliaccio was the top medalist for Ruth Chris's Tar Heel Invitational with an overall tournament score of 11-under-par.
The Duke Blue Devils repeated as tournament champions with a 14-under-par performance from their team. This is the fifth time the Blue Devils have won the tournament in the last six years.
The Tar Heels' women's golf team will be back in action on Friday Oct. 26 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, NC.
