Louisville Tops Carolina On Play4Kay Day
February 19, 2017 | Women's Basketball
Redshirt sophomore Paris Kea reached the 20-point plateau for the 12th time, scoring a team-high 26 points. Freshman Taylor Koenen registered 14 points and nine rebounds, while Jaime Cherry had 13. Alyssa Okoene hauled in 11 rebounds.
North Carolina (14-13, 3-11 Atlantic Coast Conference) played minus its second-leading scorer Stephanie Watts, who's bruised knee forced her to miss the first game of her career. Double-figure scorer Destinee Walker was also unavailable for a fifth-straight outing.
Durr paced Louisville (23-6, 10-4) with 28 points, while Myisha Hines-Allen offered up 19 and 12 rebounds for her 12th double-double effort of the season.
Despite making only three shots from the field in the first quarter, Carolina only trailed 14-11. All three buckets came from beyond the arc with Kea making a pair from distance.
Carolina shot 25.9 percent in the first half, and a cold stretch with zero field goals in the final 4:32 of the second quarter allowed Louisville to piece together a 10-1 run and a 34-21 lead at intermission.
Koenen got UNC within 34-25 in the third quarter, but the Cardinals responded with the next 10 points to regain control of the game with a 44-25 lead.
Louisville reserve guard Sydney Zambrotta made three three-pointers in the final 63 seconds to take the lead to as many as 30 in the final moments.
UNC visits NC State on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Tar Heels took down the Wolfpack, 83-70, in Chapel Hill on Jan. 29 in the first meeting of the season between the two rivals.
