Carolina Cruises Past Yale At ITA Indoors
February 10, 2017 | Women's Tennis
North Carolina (6-0) did not surrender a game in winning the opening doubles point to take a 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs.
In singles play, No. 5 Hayley Carter quickly made it 2-0 for the Tar Heels with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Carol Finke.
No. 2 Sara Daavettila moved the advantage to 3-0 with another straight set win on court two over Tina Jiang.
No. 48 Alexa Graham won her first set, but was in comeback mode in the second when her opponent, Valerie Shklover, was forced to retire, thus clinching the match for the Tar Heels.
Carolina will face 7-seed Cal in the quarterfinals on Saturday in what equates to a rematch of last year's championship match that went to the Bears, 4-3, in Madison, Wisconsin.
