UNC Advances Past Texas At ITA Kick-Off

The victory sends the Tar Heels (4-0) to the ITA Indoor National Championships that runs Feb. 10-13 in New Haven, Conn. Carolina has reached the 16-team championship every year since its first appearance in the tournament in 2002.
The Tar Heels won the doubles point as they have in each of their dual matches this season. Hayley Carter and Sara Daavettila opened the match by easing their way to a 6-1 victory on court one.
On court 3, Chloe Ouellet-Pizer and Rachael James-Baker, down 0-2, battled from behind to win the next six games. Their 6-2 victory clinched the doubles point, giving the Tar Heels the advantage heading into singles play.
No. 9 Jessie Aney registered the first singles point with a 6-2, 6-3 win on court 3 to put Carolina up 2-0. After cruising through the first set, Aney powered her way out of a 2-3 deficit to take the second set and the match over Anna Turati.
On court 1, No. 5 Hayley Carter battled Bianca Turati in the first set 7-5 before easily downing her 6-0 in the second set to put the Tar Heels one point away from the win.
No. 3 Sara Daavettila sealed the deal for Carolina on court 2 with a 7-5, 6-3 defeat of No. 55 Neda Koprcina, clinching the team's 45th consecutive home win.
Next up, Carolina visits the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla. to face No. 13 Texas Tech on Feb. 3 before heading to New Haven for the ITA National Team Indoor Championship.
