
No. 5 Tar Heels Top Duke, 6-1

DURHAM, N.C. – The North Carolina men's tennis team closed out the regular season Sunday afternoon with a resounding 6-1 win over host Duke, improving its regular-season record to 24-3 and finishing Atlantic Coast Conference play 9-3.
Next up for the Tar Heels is the ACC Championships, which run from Wednesday through Sunday at Cary Tennis Park. As the No. 4 seed in the field, UNC receives a double-bye into the quarterfinals and will open play Friday at 4 p.m., with the opponent to be determined by matches on Wednesday and Thursday.
On a sunny afternoon at Ambler Tennis Stadium, the Tar Heels opened by claiming the doubles point, with freshman Anu Kodali and junior Ronnie Schneider teaming for a 6-2 win at No. 3 and juniors Jack Murray and Brayden Schnur earning the decision with a 6-3 victory at No. 2.
In singles, sophomore Robert Kelly quickly wrapped up a win at No. 4 over Daniel McCall, 6-1, 6-1. On an adjacent court, freshman Blaine Boyden made it 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Andrew Deloy. The deciding point came from the lone senior in the lineup, Brett Clark. Playing at No. 3, Clark beat Josh Levine, 6-1, 6-0 in the final regular-season match of his career.
The Tar Heels would run the score to 6-0 with wins at No. 5 (Jack Murray) and No. 2 (Ronnie Schneider). Duke's victory came on court one, where Schnur, ranked No. 29, battled Blue Devil sophomore Nicolas Alvarez, ranked No. 22. Alvarez took the first set 6-4 and the second went into a tie-breaker, which eventually went to Duke, 8-6.
