NORTH CAROLINA POSTGAME QUOTES
North Carolina 75, Marshall 53 • December 7, 2016
North Carolina Head Coach Sylvia Hatchell
Opening Statement
"Thanks for being here. Good win, we started out a little sluggish, letting them have open looks, they had some great three point shooters. We tightened that down a little bit, our defense got a lot better, we held them to 26% shooting. We did a lot better with that. Even though Stephanie (Watts) and Paris (Kea) didn't have the normal scoring they did a lot of other things, Stephanie had ten rebounds and Paris had seven assists and four steals. So they did some besides scoring.
"Jamie (Cherry) continues to do a great job running the team and being point guard out there and Destinee (Walker) does too when Jamie is out. These guys are really playing well and Destinee was making her threes tonight and Jamie was doing a great job coming off the screens, reading things, taking the shots, but also dishing it out. We're 8-1, we're happy with that right now, of course we're taking a break for exams, next Friday we head to the beach, we play LSU down there. We're getting better and better, we kept the dribbler in front of us a little better defensively today."
On the second quarter
"We were switching on the defense on the perimeter and we tightened that up. That was the biggest thing. We were switching and with the big girl, whenever they set the screen or handoff, the defender was back in the hole, and when they came off the switch they were wide open. So we tightened that up and basically gave up the roll to the basket but we had some weakside help there."
On contributing in other ways
"I think the first thing is probably scoring. Like coach said, Steph had ten rebounds and Paris still had seven assists, so I think on their part, they recognize they were having off nights and tried to contribute in other places. For me, I was just happy my shot was falling tonight. The last couple games it's bene off, so I was happy to contribute.”

On making up for other people's off nights
"Well, obviously score. But coach did a great job letting them know it's not all about scoring, it's all about assists, rebounds, that you can help our team in other ways. I think they did a great job with that tonight. Des did a great job, she shot the ball really well tonight. Hopefully we can put that all together and when we do put it all together we can be unstoppable."
