North Carolina Returns Home To Host Elon Sunday

The Phoenix is led by sixth-year head coach Charlotte Smith, the legendary Tar Heel player that will be honored on Sunday with her very own bobblehead that will be given out to 500 fans. Smith made “The Shot” to give Carolina the 1994 NCAA national championship. Her #23 hangs in the Carmichael Arena rafters. She ranks third in program history with 2,094 career points.

BAHAMAS DISASTER RELIEF
The North Carolina women's basketball team is collecting items for Bahamas Disaster Relief this Sunday during the game with Elon at Carmichael Arena beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Bahamas took a severe hit by Hurricane Matthew back in October. The Tar Heels have a strong connection with the area affected. Sophomore Destinee Walker spent a portion of her childhood in the Bahamas, and has family and friends that continue to live there now.
Carolina recently played in Bimini last weekend over Thanksgiving and was overwhelmed by the support of the locals that traveled from a variety of islands that make up the Bahamas, including Walker's native Freeport that took a direct hit by the hurricane.
Supplies needed includes:

SERIES HISTORY
Carolina owns an 8-1 edge in the all-time series with Elon, including a perfect 7-0 in Chapel Hill. This is the first meeting since an 85-67 Tar Heel victory on Dec. 21, 2014 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
LAST TIME OUT
Stephanie Watts scored 23 points to lead North Carolina to a 72-59 victory over Wisconsin in the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge on Thursday evening from Kohl Center.
Watts, the reigning ACC Player of the Week, registered her fourth double-double of the season by grabbing 10 rebounds to go with her game-high 23 points. Destinee Walker added 17 points, while Paris Kea chipped in with 14 and six steals. North Carolina improved to 7-3 all-time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
