November 6, 2016 | Men's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL - North Carolina was upended by Boston College, 1-0, in the quarterfinals of the ACC Men's Soccer Championship on Sunday afternoon from Fetzer Field.
Zeiko Lewis scored on a shot that was severely deflected off a Tar Heel defender in the 58th minute that held up for the game winner. It was Lewis' sixth goal of the season, and third in two postseason ACC matches.
The goal snapped a streak of over 373 minutes since Carolina last conceded a goal that came against Duke on Oct. 14 in Durham.
The Tar Heels led 15-7 in shots in the match, and put a full offensive press on in the final 30 minutes of the match.
In the 68th minute, Zach Wright was tripped on a sprint 20 yards out from goal. Cam Lindley promptly delivered a near perfect shot that was saved when Boston College keeper Cedric Saladin pinned the ball off the cross bar, keeping the Tar Heels off the scoreboard.
In the 73rd minute, Nico Melo shook loose from the defense and attempted to slip a shot into the far corner but could not keep it from bending past the left post.
Saladin made seven saves for Boston College (8-7-3).
Fourth-ranked North Carolina (11-3-3) will now wait for NCAA Tournament selection Monday on Nov. 14.
