CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – For the second straight game, the 16th-ranked University of North Carolina women's soccer team went on the road and earned a 1-1 draw against a higher-ranked opponent as the Tar Heels and seventh-ranked Virginia battled toe-to-toe for 110 minutes at Klockner Stadium before a large crowd of 2,671 fans. Last Sunday UNC and #13 Clemson had tied 1-1 at Historic Riggs Field in South Carolina.
UNC earned its first result against the Cavaliers since 2012 when the two teams drew at Klockner Stadium 2-2. UNC is now 6-2-3 on the season and 1-1-2 in the ACC. Virginia is now 8-2-2 overall and 1-1-2 in the conference.
Coach Anson Dorrance remains at 798 career wins after the draws in the past two games. If the Tar Heels can win two home matches this next weekend they can earn him his 800th career victory. UNC plays Miami at Fetzer Field Thursday at 7 p.m. on the ACC's Regional Sports and then hosts Wake Forest next Sunday at 1 p.m. at Fetzer Field on ACC Network Extra. Both games will be broadcast on WCHL Radio.

After Maya Worth earned a foul outside the box on the left side, Annie Kingman quickly played the ball to Buckingham who blasted a shot from 25 yards out into the upper left corner.
Virginia took the lead just 3:22 before the end of the first half when Alexis Shaffer scored from 20 yards out with a strike into the lower right corner past UNC goalkeeper Lindsey Harris. Morgan Reid assisted on the goal. Shaffer's goal was her fifth of the season.
