UNC Improves To 18-0, Defeats Orange 7-0

CHAPEL HILL--The No. 1-ranked North Carolina women's tennis team (18-0, 6-0 ACC) easily handled Syracuse (6-7 1-6 ACC), defeating the Orange 7-0 on a chilly Friday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
The Heels captured the doubles point in just 45 minutes, as #36 duo Ashley Dai and Kate Vialle won the first match 8-1 over Nicole Mitchell and Olivia Messineo.
Twelfth-ranked Caroline Price and Jamie Loeb secured the point with an 8-3 victory after an early 2-2 tie over Amanda Rodgers and Rhiann Newborn.
Carolina grabbed the first set in each of the singles matches. #66 Ashley Dai dominated in her match, grabbing the 6-1, 6-0 victory over Olivia Messineo.
Kate Vialle, #125 in the country, swept Nicole Mitchell in the second set and won 6-1, 6-0 to make it 3-0 Carolina.
#61 Whitney Kay stood strong in the second set, sweeping Komal Safdar 6-3, 6-0 to clinch the win for the Tar Heels.
#14 Hayley Carter easily handled Rhiann Newborn with a 6-2, 6-2 defeat.
#16 Caroline Price battled in her set against Breanna Bachini but came away with a 6-4, 6-3 win.
#8 Jamie Loeb rounded out the match with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Amanda Rodgers after a close first set.
The Tar Heels will be back in action on Sunday when they face Wake Forest in Winston-Salem at 12:00 pm.
