March 16, 2015 | Field Hockey, Academics
For the fourth time in her career, North Carolina's Loren Shealy has been named a Scholar of Distinction by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association. The honor goes to Division I field hockey players with a cumulative GPA of 3.9 or better.
Shealy, from Charlotte, N.C., is a senior who played her final season for the Tar Heels in 2014 and will graduate from UNC in May with a degree in business administration. She was a three-time winner of the NCAA Elite 89 Award, which goes to the student-athlete at each championship site with the highest cumulative GPA. The Tar Heels advanced to the final four in each year of Shealy's career. As freshmen aren't eligible for the award, she won in all three years she was a candidate.
As a senior, she was named second-team All-Atlantic Coast Conference, All-ACC Academic and second-team All-South Region while starting all 23 games at forward for UNC.
